America's cup

My group and I first looked at some facts about the America's cup and looked  the main ideas. Main ideas can be sorted in to groups of who, what, where, when and why.

Next we did some summarising. We had to write 20 most important words about the America's cup. Then we had to chose the 6 most important words to write our summary sentences on.

The last thing we did was some evaluating. I needed to write some interesting facts about the America's cup. I then needed to think of questions I still had or I was interested in.

This helps me because I can see the information I need to learn about. It means hard text become easier to understand.

Evaluating

Evaluating

place value and saying numbers

place value is a system that groups numbers based on their size.

The position of a digit determines its a value.  When we say numbers we group them within the same house. For example 15709 has Fifteen thousands , seven hundreds and nine ones.

Understanding our base 10 place value system allows us to identify numbers before and after.

The high way rat

A visualisation is when you think of what some one say and think of a picture that might look like what the person said.

A visualisation is important because it helps create pictures in your head and helps understand what we read.

The story is about when a rat called the high way rat steals the villagers food.

When the high way rat steals all the villagers food the villagers starve and when the high way rat comes back they hide for it.

At the end of the story the high way rat ends up being a nice guy on the other side of the mountain working as a janitor in a cake shop.

Mine is different to others because they have less details and I have speech baubles.

Doing prototec

Today I did prototec and I got 50% of right answers and 10% of wrong answers.

I need to work on my grouping within 10 and 20.

I timed my self and it took me 2 minuets and 39 seconds. I like doing prototec because it helps me learn.

When I do prototec I am going to do level 4 because I got 10 answers wrong and I need to get 100% so that I can move on to the next level.

Basic fact boxes

Today I was doing my basic fact boxes and I got 95% right.

I need to work on some of my questions because they were hard .

Last time I did my basic fact boxes I did up to 5 and now I am doing up to 10 and It was hard. I am going to keep working on my up to 5 so that I know the answer already because I've practise the up to 5.

Mihi Whakatau

Mihi Whakatau is a Maori term for a formal greetings.

Mihi Whakatau is traditionally used for welcoming, introductions and openings. It is undertaken by the Tangata whaenua (local inhabitants). The Mihi needs to acknowledge the significant aspects to the place.

The Maunga (mountain), awa (river) and the (iwi) Tribe are generally used. Introducing Ingoa (name), Oku tipuna (ancestral place) and where you live
is important for the audience to understand the position of the speaker.

Manuhiri is the term used to describe or group the visitors that is being welcomed. It is important to end with a warm welcome so the visitors know that there is no hostility in the two groups being together.

Being respectful of the land, the people and the purpose of a visit will ensure a long lasting relationship and connections.

Noah

I read a whole book called Noah a book of the Bible.

There is a guy called Noah and was a very good man who would do what God would say and he had 3 sons who had girl friends.

Noah has Gray hair and he was old who would never die because he obeyed God and his three sons had black hair and the same skin colour as Noah light brown.

I like Noah because he is a great man and his 3 sons work there feet off for people with him and hes very nice and help full.

Basic facts boxes

I was doing an Prototec witch is like Basic Facts.  I got 100% of correct answers.

When I was doing my work there was some questions that I had to think longer about like the time tables and we timed ourselves.

It took me 6 minutes and 53 seconds because of how long I had to think for the time tables.

I need to work on my time tables so that when I do another test and there are some timetables I know it straight away and I might beat my time right now to recall basic facts fluently and quickly.

Print Design Rules

I learned about the print design rules in class.

First Mr Wong taught us about the main aspects of the Print Design Rules, colour, layout, text an composition.

Next I figured out which posters were good and bad with our partners to make it look good and cool.

Last I recognised a poster to make it look good.

I need to remember that first I need to make a margin so that if some one hit a notes or something the margin would get ripped not the picture or text or what ever is on it.

practising my Letters

I learned how to write the alphabet, numbers and symbols properly.

I watched a video to show neat handwriting.

I wrote the characters neatly into my writing book.

I need to work on my K,M,N.W,f and d because I'm not using the lines to help me write them.

Kicking and passing.

Today LS1 did Australian Football League.

Firs we were told how to  throw a ball. We had to hit it on the bottom middle at the end of the ball with our fist facing up.

Then after we finished practising we had to practise our drop kicks. We had to make an M with our hands and make the shoe lase facing our target and drop the ball  on our foot then kick the ball straight to our target so they can catch  it and score.

But we had to practise in separated groups that's why we had  to make a group A and a group B.

When I was playing octopus and I was the tagger I had to throw it the way that I was learnt from coach  Jack.

Ls1 learning Treaty

LS1 learnt about the 3Ps in the Treaty of waitangi and how hay apply to our learning.

First Mr Ogilvie introduced the 3Ps in the Treaty of  Waitangi. They are Protection, partnership, and participation.

Then in groups we wrote statements about the 3Ps in LS1.

LS1 figured out the 3Ps are all connected. After that we used our group ideas and thought about how they are connected to our self's.

I chose these 3 statements because they will help me and teach others about the 3Ps of waitangi.
